Managing Projects

BlockWerk stores your diagrams as projects inside your browser's local storage (IndexedDB). Everything stays on your device — no account or internet connection is required to save and load your work.

Saving a Project

  • Press Ctrl+S or use File > Save to save the current diagram.
  • The first time you save a new diagram you will be prompted to give it a name.
  • Subsequent saves overwrite the existing project silently.

The Project Dashboard

Open File > Projects to see the Project Dashboard. From here you can:

  • Browse all saved projects with their last-modified date.
  • Open any project by clicking on it.
  • Rename a project by clicking its name.
  • Duplicate a project to start a variation without overwriting the original.
  • Delete projects you no longer need.

Auto-Restore

BlockWerk automatically reopens the last project you were working on when you return to the application. This means you can close the browser tab and pick up exactly where you left off.

Exporting to a File

Use File > Export to File to download the current project as a .json file. This is the recommended way to:

  • Share a diagram with someone else.
  • Keep a backup outside the browser.
  • Move a project between computers or browsers.

Importing a File

Use File > Import / Open File to load a previously exported .json project file from your computer. The imported diagram opens immediately as a new project.

Starting Fresh

File > New Project clears the canvas and starts a blank diagram. If you have unsaved changes, BlockWerk will ask you to save first.

Important: Projects are stored entirely in your browser. If your browser's site data is cleared, saved projects will be lost. Use Export to File regularly for important work.
